NHLers take to the ice tonight

The ninth annual Salmon Arm Hockey School Pro Am Scholarship game gets underway tonight at 7:30 at Sunwave Centre.

The ninth annual Salmon Arm Hockey School Pro Am Scholarship game gets underway tonight at 7:30 at Sunwave Centre.

Headlining the summer spectacular will be Edmonton Oilers’ veteran Ryan Smyth. Smyth was recently traded to the Oilers from the Los Angeles Kings. Sicamous native, Cody Franson, who was also on the trading block this year, moves from the Nashville Predators to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

It is expected two former SilverBack players, brothers Brendan and Riley Nash, will be in the lineup. Brendan is currently with the Montreal Canadiens organization while Riley is property of the Carolina Hurricanes. Both of them had outstanding years with the SilverBacks.

Keagan Lowe, son of former Edmonton Oiler great, Kevin Lowe, will also suit up. Lowe is presently a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL and a recent draft choice of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Vancouver Canuck Aaron Volpatti, is expected to suit up for the game. Volpatti, who hails from Revelstoke, played a few games with the Canucks last year and is hoping to crack the Canucks lineup this year. Locally, it will be great to see the return of Damon Kipp. The former SilverBacks captain, who anchors the University of New Hampshire Wildcat defence, is rumoured to be the captain of the NCAA squad this upcoming season.

Tickets are on sale at Chevy Sports and Brushstrokes. Admission price is $6 and children six years and under will be admitted free.
