Salmon Arm Secondary skiers stake claim at Whistler

Eighteen-member team takes on B.C.'s best at provincial championships.

Salmon Arm Secondary’s 18-member ski and snowboard team flew to good performances in Whistler this week, taking part in the 2012 BC High School Ski & Snowboard Provincial Championships.

• In the Boys Ski Team Overall, the SAS team claimed fourth place.

• In Girls Snowboard GS, Selena Magel placed 14th.

• In Boys Ski GS, Brady Roy took 9th place.

• In Boys Boardercross, Jon Ladyman finished eighth.

“Great work on the slopes, team,” said a pleased coach Chris Stromgren.

Students are in grades 8 through 12.

Stromgren started the team in the 2007-’08 year with just five members, and its membership has grown steadily.

Team members are: Owen Affleck, Beau Deschenaux, Chuck Emery, Evan Ernst, Rich Fukumoto, Justin Haight, Davin Hofmann, Jon Ladyman, Mykolia Larson, Selena Magel, Marlee  Miege Moffat, Lucas Rampen, Brady Roy, Heather Savage, Steph Stanton, Rydr Strobl, Katelyn Thiessen, Anna Young and James Whitehead.
