Tadpole tournament upcoming at Elks Park

Tadpole tournament

The Salmon Arm Minor Baseball Tadpole Tournament will be held on May 26-29 at Elks Park. Volunteers are required.

Hanna signs with Texas

Salmon Arm native Shane Hanna signed with the Texas Stars, the Dallas Stars’ AHL affiliate team for the 2017/18 season. Hanna played for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, Penticton Vees in the BCHL and KIJHL’s Osoyoos Coyotes before joining the Michigan Tech Huskies.

Zone championships

Several Shuswap Middle School (SMS) Grade 8s competed in the North and West Zone track and field championships in Kamloops. Special mention goes to Jordan King, Braidy Parkes, Megan Kujat and Sam Hall for Gold medal finishes in a number of their events. Also, the SMS girls’ 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams both won Gold. On Thursday, May 18, several SMS athletes will be competing in the Okanagan Valley Track and Field Championships in Kamloops.

Softball reunion

Players who participated in the Salmon Arm fast pitch softball league in the 1970s, ’80s or ’90s are invited to attend a reunion Saturday, June 17 at the SASCU Rec Centre.

Players from Sicamous, Enderby and Chase, who played in the Salmon Arm league are welcome to attend as well. Every player may invite a spouse, partner or one friend to attend. To register or for more information, email jimster52@hotmail.com.

Bridge results

The winners for Tuesday, May 9 were: first, Judy Harris and John Coone and second/third, Brian and Colleen Luco, and Barbara Grier and Gene Demens.

The winners for Thursday,; May 11 were: first/second, Jim McLean and Ona Bouchard, and Peggy Peterson and Carol McGregor; third, Dave Peterson and Charles Buckler.

Results for May 14: first, Ona Bouchard and Peggy Petersen and second Betty and Charlie Ward. The Bridge Club plays every Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Fifth Avenue Seniors’ Centre and everyone is welcome. For more information, call 250-803-5556.
