After making waves at the Kokanee Fall Invitational Swim Meet in Vernon over the weekend, the Shuswap Swimming Team returned home with eight medals and 24 broken team records.
The team had 15 athletes compete in the event that hosted more than 200 athletes and eight teams from throughout B.C. and Alberta.
Results were as follows:
• 12 and under girls – Lilli Rakose-Lund earned 15th in the 200-metre breastroke, Morgan Rasmuson placed 16th in the 100-m backstroke and Hannah Kalinczuk finished 20th in the 100-m breaststroke.
• 13- to 14-year-old girls – Bree Cooper was awarded three gold medals for the 50-m and 100-m freestyle, as well as the 50-m butterfly. Skyla Eberle finished 5th in the 50-m freestyle, Paige Coutlee picked up 8th in the 200-m backstroke and Emma Pyle earned 11th in the 200-m breaststroke. Cooper and Coutlee combined for six new team records.
• 13- to 14-year-old girls relay – Eberle, Coutlee, Pyle and Cooper placed 3rd in the 4 x 50-m freestyle relay and 6th in the 4 x 50 medley relay both in record time.
• 15 and older girls – Jessie-May Baird earned 8th in the 200-m breaststroke while Virginia Flahr placed 14th in the 100-m breaststroke.
• 15 and older girls relay – Rasmuson, Rakose-Lund, Baird and Flahr finished 6th in the 4 x 50-m medley relay in record time.
• 12 and under boys – Ethan Quilty won five medals, taking home gold in the 100-m breaststroke, silver in the 100-m backstroke and bronze in the 50-m butterfly, 100-m individual medley and 200-m breaststroke, breaking six team records. Olin Mosher earned 5th in the 100-m individual medley and 100-m freestyle, along with Torrey McKee who finished 5th in the 100-m butterfly. Ty Webster-Locke placed 8th in the 100-m individual medley and 100-m freestyle.
• 12 and under boys relays – Quilty, Mosher, Webster-Locke & McKee finished 2nd in the 4 x 50-m freestyle relay and 3rd in the 4 x 50-m medley relay, both in record times.
• 13- to 14-year-old boys – Thomas Flahr placed 5th in record time in the 100-m butterfly.
• 15 and older boys – Jacob Kitchen earned 5th place in the 50-m backstroke, breaking six team records.
Coming up, the team travels to Kamloops for the annual Kamloops Ice Classic Dec. 9-11.
