PL Lord was on fire.
During Friday night’s contest versus the Rutland Voodoos, the Salmon Arm Secondary Varsity Golds’ running back recorded four receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
“He had an incredible day,” said head coach Rob Neid of Lord.
On the other end of the ball was quarterback Eric Borthistle, who was six for 11 passing, for two touchdowns.
Matrix Gathergood also had a good day, running hard against the tough Voodoos, carrying 13 times for 78 yards.
On defence, Chris Szybunka continues to be a standout, notching 10 tackles including a sack and a fumble recovery.
Cody Stubbins also had an outstanding game, recording eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
Jordan Goertzen and Ryley Butler also recorded sacks.
The final score, Golds 12, Voodoos 6.
“It was tougher than we thought it would be but that’s typical of Rutland,” said Neid. “They’re very similar to us, they’re big and strong and rely on those qualities to get the job done. We were fortunate – their really good running back got hurt early in the game.”
The second-place Golds take on first-place Kelowna on Friday at Little Mountain. The Golds need to beat Kelowna by more than eight points to move into first place.
The Junior Varsity Golds play at 5 p.m., the Varsity Golds at 7:30. As the last home game of the season, it will include a salute to the Grade 12s.
