A group of motorcycle riders stopped in Salmon Arm for a quick bite and a generous donation from the legion.
On Wednesday morning, July 5, members of the Military Police National Motorcycle Relay (MPNMR) were greeted by members of the Salmon Arm Legion, including president Jane Birnie and vice-president Lance Ewan, who provided them with lunch and a cheque for $500. The riders welcomed both, as they make their way across Canada raising funds for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children.
“The blind fund has been in existence since 1950 I believe…,” said MPNMR chair Ray Lyver. “This ride that we’re doing was started with five military policeman that started out with a ride across Canada to raise some money for the kids… In the last 14 years, we’ve raised over $850,000, and this year, we’ve only just started and we are now over $24,000.”
Lyver said legions and other groups have been providing generous support throughout their journey so far, which ends on July 26 in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
