Following a year of international concerts, classical pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko is returning to his Salmon Arm roots with a benefit performance.

After a jet setting year of nearly 50 shows in 13 different countries – including Spain, Japan, Germany, France, Argentina and more – the 24-year-old is coming back to where it all began with a concert in support of the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The award-winning pianist first started garnering attention when the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation named him one of the 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30 after earning his Bachelor of Music degree from Juilliard in New York. Izik-Dzurko then went on to win first place at the 2022 Hilton Head International Piano Competition and the Maria Canals International Music Competition. Most recently, he won the Canon Audience Prize, the Chamber Music Award and placed first at the 20th Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition.

Despite Izik-Dzurko’s international acclaim, people needn’t break out the passport to see him in action. His local performance, featuring pieces by composers Scriabin, Liszt and Chopin, will take place on Friday, Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Nexus at First, with admission by donation.

More information about Izik-Dzurko, and a list of his other upcoming concerts, is available at www.jaedenizikdzurko.com.
