Three projects in Electoral Area G of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District will be getting much-needed improvements.

From a total of $700,000 from the area’s Community Works Fund, $365,000 will go to parks, $260,000 to Carlin Hall and $75,000 to Sorrento Hall subject to eligible projects being identified and being brought to the board for approval.

In her report to the board, Jodi Pierce, General Manager, Financial Services, explained that Area G Director Natalya Melnychuk wiants to make sure the remaining balance of Area G Community Works Funds are allocated before the current Agreement expires on March 31.

According to CSRD policy, Electoral Area Community Works Funds require the board of directors to approve funding for eligible projects by way of a resolution.

“At this time, staff and third party eligible recipients have not been able to develop comprehensive eligible projects and proposals for all of the funding,” noted Pierce in her report. “However, the current agreement expires at the end of March 2024 and a new agreement has not yet been provided, therefore Director Melnychuk wants to enshrine the above allocations under the existing agreement.”

Expenditure of the funds will be in accordance with the 2014-2024 agreement between the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) and CSRD, subject to project eligibility.

Melnychuk said she has been exploring the most impactful projects that will benefit her constituents and offered grateful thanks to CSRD staff for helping to identify them. She explained the need for infrastructure and accessibility needs at both community halls as well as the need to improve Blind Bay Park and provide improved access to Shuswap Lake.

Further project details will be worked out with staff and brought back to the board for approval in the future.
